The first time in the Caribbean. Destination Bayahibe, the Viva Dominicus Beach in which so many have mentioned, we rely on tour operators, another sun. The flight Blue Panorama has not been flawless, almost 5 hours late on departure, to spend at the airport of Malpensa to come at a time of agitation was not the best. Some disservice also on board, took the headphones do not work, seats a bit tight and 'burglary, flight duration of 10 hours the first leg, 9 to return.
Viva Dominicus Beach welcomes us that it is already evening, surprising the hall practically open, but here there are no doors or fear for the air conditioning in common areas, everything is "open". We have chosen, with a little extra to stay in the bungalow and it's worth, the thatched surrounds the structure, the palm trees are everywhere. The village center is the Place, where we gather, where there are dances in the evening, and then the great amphitheater, the animation is super fabulous, you put on shows different and amazing choreography, the animators have the Dominicans dance soul. All you are greeted with a smile, the Chamber of restaurants, entertainers, the gardeners, they seem happy just to what little they have, and leave the village when we realize that life outside is another matter.
Nothing to say about the food quality always varies is excellent. In the evening you can dine at the restaurant Viva Mexico or grill with table service, just book the day before, and we feel even more pampered.
The weather was a bit 'variable, the first three days, some slight rain, but we have always been at the beach. Towards the end of the week is improved, even the locals know how to say what is the best season, now just a matter of luck.
A week flies quickly, we also wish to laze under the palms, so we opt to make only 2 trips, the boat trip to the island of Saona + Catalina (unmissable) exit + quad dune buggy.
Saona prefer to book the Diving Center as the excursion range is more comprehensive than that proposed by another sun. We start with the spear after the compulsory wearing life jackets, first destination channel of mangroves (which reminds me so much of the island famous), then the island of Catalina, where we admire the giant shells and where we are very near to the point where the ocean joins the Caribbean Sea, while from a distance but you can see the high waves. Next stop the natural pools, a kind of dry where the water is shallow and warm. Then we stop the island of Saona, the village of Mano Juan, where the women running with curlers on her head, the shops are virtually the huts. Stop for lunch and then we move with the spear to the private beach at Viva, for a little 'relaxation. In the afternoon stop at the bay of sea stars, and then return to the village, hurtling at 50 kilometers an hour, including sprays and splashes, with spears that weave directions. We just drank rum and go down stunned.
An entirely different species excursion into the interior of the island, to see the plantations of sugar cane. Let's start with a battered red bus, take possession of the quad and the way to rutted track, rocks, puddles, dust everywhere. Stop at the Rio Chavon (the name is already an entire program) for watering and in a small village to taste the coconut. To change, the dune buggy is already more comfortable, but when you cross the puddles are pain, you dirty so unspeakable. Passing through the villages the children chasing us, it is sad to immerse themselves in their lives ... ... We stop in the plantation of sugar cane, a cane cutter earns $ 10 a day to cut 3.5 tons of cane .... It takes 6 sturdy bulls to move the cart containing the cut cane by hand by a man in a day, think about when we complain about our jobs! Taste the cane (sugar ...) is nice.
I forgot, we made the trip with Fiorella and Attilio, our consuoceri, it was fun, and together we really were good, our children will be happy.
